Course Program

  • Fundamentals of Transmission techniques: digital and analog signals, modulation principle, bandwidth and carrier frequency concepts, wired and wireless transmissions, AWGN noise, analog and digital repeaters. Examples and exercises. 
  • Examples of transmission technologies for telecommunication systems: terrestrial and satellite point-to-point links The cellular network concept: Fundamentals, co channel interference, frequency reuse, cell splitting, uplink and downlink, duplexing techniques, handover. Examples and exercises. 
  • The radio channel: path loss, large and small scale fading, diversity. Wireless communications with multiple antennas. OFDM modulation. Spatial multiplexing in MIMO systems. Examples and exercises. 
  • 5G and Beyond 5G Cellular Systems. Key technologies: massive MIMO, small cells, millimeter waves, D2D, IAB, network slicing. SINR and spectral efficiency formulas. Innovative network deployments: cell free massive MIMO, ultra massive MIMO, metasurfaces. Examples and exercises.
