Construction of Multi-Touch and Multi-User Interfaces [ELECTIVE]
30.2652

Description
ELECTIVE COURSE -> not offered every semester

Learning Objectives:
This lecture will convey knowledge and skills for actual hard- and software techniques needed to construct and operate multi-touch and multi-user interfaces. The theoretical part of this lecture will explain the hardware and software necessary to realize these multi-touch interfaces. Optical (camerabased) techniques will be analyzed and mediated in detail. On the softwareside, essential image processing and computer-graphical algorithms will be explained. The practical part of this lecture will advance selected aspects of the introduced theory. This will be realized by means of a project work which will be conducted in 2-part teams.
Content
Areas of application of multi-touch and multi-user interfaces
Hardware designs (camera-based designs will be examined more in-depth)
Calibration methods
Realtime image (video) processing procedures, as needed to operate the interfaces. These include procedures from the areas: segmentation, object-tracking and image processing.
Gesture recognition and the associated control of software programs (~user interfaces)
