Numerical analysis of structures
CIV_452

Description
With the aid of a computer language to develop computer software source codes for the analysis of plane structures using linear flexural-axial elements and axial elements using the direct stiffness method and matrix analysis methods. To model and study the dynamic behavior of plane frames using existing software programs.

Introduction in matrix analysis and computer source code implementation. Direct stiffness method for plane frames and development of the equilibrium equations. Beam-axial element. Element stiffness matrix and load vector. Local and global axes, degrees of freedom, rotation matrix, fixed end forces, boundary conditions. Global frame equilibrium. Numerical solution implementation of the stiffness method. Axial element. Direct stiffness method for the analysis of plane trusses. Numerical solution and computer implementation. Dynamic analysis of plane frames using software programs. Dynamic characteristics and solution methods. Natural periods and mode shapes. Examples.
