Highways Engineering II

Description
Aims of the Module is for students to acquire basic knowledge of Design and Construction of Highways, the soil characteristics, the proper compaction of backfill layers, suitable rainwater drainage, materials and thicknesses of the various layers and methods and construction equipment which is used. 

Introduction to Highways. Earthworks. Various types of soils and their properties, backfills, excavations, protection and stability of slopes, improvement of poor soils. Compaction of backfill layers. Methods and equipment for earthworks. Proper drainage of surface rainwater. Highways various layers (materials and thicknesses). Methods and construction equipment of highways. Geosynthetic materials.
