Land Management

Description
The aims of the course are to introduce the student to the key pillars of land management support as well as land management application areas and its implementation at international, national, regional, local and individual levels. Among the topics that are presented in this course are Land policy and politics; Examples of land management policy decisions; Taxation of land with special reference to the taxation of Cyprus; Definition of sustainable development; Institutional framework on which land management is based; Reference to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; Brief reference to the Cyprus Laws related to land management. As well, this course will also present relevant information town planning, land registry, rights, restrictions and obligations related to land and property. The course describes Planning Systems, Land Use and Development Factors, Building Factor, Coverage Factor, Maximum Building Height, and provides a detailed explanation of planning regulations. It also explains the process of land acquisition, financial opportunities and legal restrictions on investment for real estate development and the procedure followed in Cyprus for the separation of non-residential and residential land into plots and conditions for obtaining a building permit. As well, the course presents the challenges to be addressed over the next decade, including land management and rational development framework as well as the effect of technology on land management and sustainable development.
