Automation systems
AUTO H3007

Description
This module equips graduates to work with automated technologies by providing them with knowledge, understanding and practical experience in PLCs, sensors, robotics, pharmaceutical automation and machine vision. Safety strategies in both the design and implementation of automated systems are emphasized. The practical work is designed to develop team working skills.

PLC's: PLC sequential control facilities, function block diagrams, function charts, programming with shift registers.

PLC Structure: Hardware design of PLC, I/O interfaces, selection, installation and commissioning of PLCs, faultfinding and maintenance

Industrial robots: Operation and applications, robot programming techniques, safety strategies and devices

Machine Vision: Machine Vision: Image acquisition, lighting, digitization; Image analysis and interpretation, windowing, thresholding, template matching, edge detection, feature identification.

Design documentation for pharmaceutical automation: Process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, symbol and nomenclature conventions, interpretation of actual plant layouts, SCADA Control

Sensors: Description of various sensor types used in pharmaceutical automation, their principle of operation, practical limitations, calibration. future trends e.g. networking protocols
