Structural steel design
CIV_327

Description
 | Using basic knowledge and understanding from previously taken courses in strength of materials and analysis of structures and having acquired knowledge in calculating the resistance of structural steel members at the section and member level, to be able to design structural steel members with various cross sections at the serviceability and limit state requirements.

Basis of design. Fundamental design requirements. Limit states and design situations. Material properties. Design values and material coefficients. Standard structural steel sections and built up sections. Section properties. Design actions in structures. Type of actions. Partial safety factors. Load transfer process. Local buckling and classification of cross sections. Resistance of cross sections. Buckling resistance of members. Lateral torsional buckling, flexural buckling. Design of members in tension, compression, shear, bending and combination of forces. Interaction equations. Trusses and non-sway frames. Design of simple connections. Bolted connections. Welded connections
