STATICA (STATICS)
30013

Description
Objectives
The aim of the course is to provide the basics of the kinematics and statics of rigid bodies and systems of connected rigid bodies. Specifically, the course explains the methods in order to identify the statically determinate, indeterminate and unstable structures and to evaluate the internal loads of statically determinate structures. The subjects of this course are important for the comprehension of the next course of Scienza delle costruzioni/Mechanics of Structures.
Course Program
Rigid motions. Constraint concept. Kinematic analysis of systems of rigid bodies: kinematically labile, isodetermined and hyperdetermined system. Kinematic chains. Statics of rigid bodies. Active and reactive forces. Cardinal equations of statics. Calculation of constraint reactions. Static analysis of systems of rigid bodies: statically indeterminate, determinate and impossible system. Principle of virtual jobs for rigid body systems. Static and kinematic duality. Indefinite equilibrium equations for the beam. Differential method and direct method for calculating stress characteristics in isostatic framed structures. Calculation of trusses. Geometry of masses and flat surfaces: center of gravity, static moments, moments of inertia, transport and rotation formulas.
