AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course is the students to have knowledge of
the basic chemical processes and laws, the structure and the properties of the substances and their
transformations as well as of the basic chemical technologies, used in techniques. This knowledge is the
base for the subsequent specialized courses. The students will be able to competently solve tasks
related to the quality and reliability of the products as well as the choice and appropriate applications
of the materials and technologies in terms of chemical resistance of the materials used.
DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The main topics concern: Contemporary theories for the structure of
the atom and the nature of the chemical bond and their relation with the structure and the properties
of the substances; The basic notions of electrochemistry such as electrolytic dissociation, conductivity,
chemical power sources, corrosion of metals and methods for protection against corrosion; Nature and
chemical properties of organic and inorganic polymers.
