AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: To develop basic machine design concepts
of strength, deflection and failure, plus a study of basic mechanical components.
DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The main topics concern: design methodology; design
for static and for fatigue loading; strength and failure analyses; design of mechanical
components and joints of common use such as: keys, splines, pins, rivets, threaded fasteners,
press joints, welded joints, springs, shafts, axles, bearings, couplings, clutches, belts, chains,
gears; fits, tolerances, orientation and position errors, and roughness; interchangeability.
