Solid State Physics and Energy Materials
MEM_538

Description
This course offers the department's master's level postgraduate student an advanced insight into selected topics in solid state and condensed matter physics. Since the master's program is attended by students coming from undergraduate programs in engineering as well as basic sciences (physics, chemistry, etc.), a fundamental background theory is first taught which is necessary for the deeper analysis of the chapters that follow. These include topics related to both mechanical and thermal properties as well as optoelectronic properties of materials, i.e. they cover the interests of students who wish to work in general mechanical engineering, energy, renewable energy sources, as well as micro/nanoelectronics and photonics. So, the main goal of the course is twofold: to give the student the necessary theoretical resources and to develop his analytical skills, but also to help him delve into modern cutting-edge topics in mechanical engineering and materials science.
