Course Purpose and Objectives
Design and performance analysis of the major parts of a modern digital communication system
Learning Outcomes
Basic knowledge in the design and performance analysis of the major parts of a modern digital communication system
Prerequisites
Undergraduate classes in telecommunication systems, signals and systems and probability theory
Course Content
The course covers the design and performance analysis of the major parts of a modern digital communication system. It also discusses some fundamental limits for transmission of digital information over noisy channels. The following topics will be covered: digital modulation schemes, performance analysis of digital communication systems in the presence of noise, optimum signal detection and optimum receivers for AWGN channels, source encoding and channel capacity, and error correcting codes.
