The History of Metrology. Measurement theory. Measurement Chain. Direct and indirect measurements. The International System of Units of Measurement. Elements of statistics and probability; Gauss's theory. Gaussian and normal probability density function. Student's t-test. Linear Regression and Hypothesis Testing; The UNI-ENV 13005 Standard. Static and dynamic characteristics of measuring instruments. Influence quantities. Metrological traceability. Calibration curve. The Italian Calibration System. Introduction to basic electrical and electronic instruments: multimeters, oscilloscopes, counters. Numerical and laboratory exercises on the topics presented in class.
