Engineering Structure Analysis
CBEH 2111

Description
Module Overview
The aim of this module is to:

1. provide an understanding of the basic equations of statics and their application to the analysis of simple trusses and beams

2. provide fundamental programming concepts, problem-solving and programming skills using Visual Basic

3. provide an ability to store, manage and present data using Visual Basic with databases and files

Structural Analysis component:

Fundamentals of Statics

Analysis of simple trusses including reactions, member forces, nodal displacements and stability/determinacy.

Analysis of simple beams including reactions, shear forces and bending moments.

Programming Component:

Introduction to visual basic programming and its practical application to the solution of engineering problems. This course examines the object-based, event-driven programming approach including fundamental programming constructs, graphical user interfaces and database interaction. Case studies will be used to illustrate the use of language features in solving problems.
