Objectives
The aim of this module is to provide the student with the design tools of the main structural elements composing frame and bracing structural typologies for both reinforced concrete and steel buildings. Following a theoretical analysis of the issues related to the structural conception of the building system, the methods and models adopted for the design of the structural elements are illustrated. Further, the design of a reinforced concrete frame structure for residential use will be developed.
Course program SYLLABUS. Design of structures: Probabilistic theory of structural safety and principles of limit state design; analysis of the main structural types for reinforced concrete buildings and steel buildings; analysis of Italian and European technical codes. Design of reinforced concrete frame buildings: carpentry; structural analysis; design and verification of the structural parts of the building: beams, columns, slabs. Design of buildings with steel structure: carpentry; structural analysis; design and verification of the structural parts of the building: beams, columns, braces. During the course, the design of a r.c. frame for residential use will be developed and various exercises on the topics of the course will be carried out. Further, practical exercises will be held on the modelling of structures.
BIM DESIGN PROCESS: The course deals with the following topics: a) the transition from digital modeling, such as CAD and Archicad, to modeling of GIS and BIM information systems; b) The potential of BIM and the design system (BIM Manager, BIM Coordinator and BIM Specialist) in the three sectors, architectural-structural and MEP; c) The concept of BIM modeling with the use of families of objects and the creation of new families of objects; d) Georeferencing and IFC functionality; e) Digital photogrammetry and import of the point cloud into the BIM system, according to the SCAN to BIM procedure; f) laser scanner survey and import the cloud point into a BIM system (SCAN to BIM); g) H-BIM model; h) Analysis of wind exposure due to degradation phenomena on the facades of existing buildings; i) Analysis of solar radiation and solar exposure for the design of functional spaces.
