Advanced Environmental Engineering

Description
 This module is designed to enable the student to acquire knowledge of advanced concepts within environmental engineering. The module entails instructing the student in advanced principles within the field of environmental engineering. The student is introduced to new concepts with the field of environmental engineering as well as building on previous knowledge. The students demonstrate competence through project assessment throughout the term.

 Air Pollution Physical & chemical fundamentals, Standards, Sources & effects of air pollutants, Atmospheric Dispersion, Control of stationary sources, Control of mobile sources. 
Wastewater treatment Advances wastewater treatment unit process design Engineering Hydrology Hydrologic cycle, surface water hydrology, water balance, groundwater flow, engineering applications 
Waste Management Waste Framework Directive – Legislation and Application, case studies Waste Management Planning in Ireland: Legislation and Application, case studies
 Waste Management Planning in Ireland: Legislation and Application, case studies Modern Waste Management Techniques and design considerations: Zero Waste, Aerobic Landfill, Solid Refuse Fuel, Reuse. Consideration of Life Cycle Assessment within waste management Environmental Accountability in Development Environmental Impact Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment, Appropriate Assessment Evaluation of techniques listed, pros/cons in case studies Green Building Innovations in building/construction technologies/methodologies Legislation applicable Techniques and designs considerations: hemp ,straw bale, rammed earth, among others.
