Structural Design Steel and Concrete 2
CBEH 4009

Description
This module furthers the student’s knowledge of the design of structural steelwork, reinforced concrete and timber. It provides the student with a sufficient knowledge of the behaviour of a structure to carry out more complex design in the future. The student demonstrates competence through worked examples and exam performance.
Content:
Steelwork: Design of truss girders Design of bracing Design of connections subject to shear, tension and torsion Design of a compound beam 
Reinforced concrete: Design of continuous beams Design of continuous in-situ floor slabs Design of combined foundations Design of in-situ stairs Design of retaining wall – water and soil 
Structural timber: Design of columns subject to axial load and combined axial load and bending Design of glulam beams Design of glulam columns subject to axial load and combined axial load and bending Design of steel and timber composite beams Design of ply- webbed beams
