At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Design machine elements and be able to analyse their state of stresses or deformation under real operating conditions, thus guaranteeing their correct operation.
- Know how to evaluate the results of the analysis of parts using the finite element method and validate them in relation to those that would be obtained following analytical formulations of calculation models.
- Evaluate the effect of stress concentration in machine elements.
- Predict the behaviour of different machine elements when subjected to fluctuating mechanical loads over time (fatigue failure).
- Design or evaluate the design of pressure vessels.
- Evaluate the state of stresses due to fit or interference between parts.
- Assess contact pressure between different machine elements.
- Analyse the behaviour of bolted joints.
- Design products with the right and necessary material without failure during normal operation throughout the life cycle.
