General Sociology
HSP377

Description
The basics of society structure are mastered in the study course. Skills for analysing the processes and changes taking place in social reality, the social contradictions and problems they create (class, gender, ethnic and racial) are developed. Special attention is paid to socialization and deviation, as well as to individual social institutions: family, religion, education. The issues to be learned are discussed in the context of the history and theories of sociology. At the end of the study course students are introduced to the methodology and techniques of specific sociological research.

Course contents:
1. What is sociology?
2. Overview of contemporary theories related to sociology.
3. Culture and society.
4. Social structure.
5. Socialization and deviation.
6. Stratification and the class structure of society.
7. Gender discrimination.
8. Ethnic and racial discrimination.
9. Social institutions: family, religion, education.
10. Social changes.
11. Design of social studies and data collection methods.
12. The final test.
