Sociology of Management

Description
The study course provides the students with the fundamental concepts and theories of sociology of management. The study course is based on sociological research of management processes and structures and concepts and theories of management studies. The practice of management is considered in the context of different organizations and in connection with interaction with the social environment. The study course overviews various styles of management and leadership and modern tendencies in the management or organizations. The influence of IT on management practice is considered in the study course. The study course provides overview of the role of informal factors in organizations and motivation processes.

Course contents:
1. Basic concepts of sociology of management.
2. Classical theories of management. Rational system approach.
3. Coordination processes and mechanisms in organizations.
4. Human relations school in management theory and practice.
5. Technology and its relation to management practices. 
6. Open systems approach to management and organizations. Environment.
7. Foundations of organizational design. Types of organizations and management practices.
8. Classification of organizations and practices of management.
9. Goals and power in organization. The system of politics in organization.
10. Strategy process.
11. Social aspects of marketing. 
12. Organizational culture and leadership.
13. Critical theory approach to organizations and management.
14. Management practices in public and private sectors.
15. Seminars and tests.
