The specific competences and learning objectives that will be developed with the course, and which are indicated below, will allow the student to be able to:
1.-Select materials for use in mechanical engineering.
2.- Recognise and assign the nomenclature used in the UNE-ISO and AISI/SAE regulations in the field of steels.
3.- Determine the suitability of a steel for use in mechanical applications.
4.- To identify corrosion failures in stainless steels.
5.- Classify metallic alloys according to their elemental composition. 6.
6.- Identify the weldability of the main materials used in mechanical engineering and the potential problems in relation to welding processes.
7.- Develop skills in the handling of instrumentation for the characterisation of materials, especially those related to mechanical properties.
8.- Determine the environmental impact of a material in service.
